Folders or documents with invalid or inconsistent properties will not be transferred by Smart Paste and display error messages on the Planned Smart Paste Operations page. Following are some common error messages and exceptions and recommended solutions.

Common Smart Paste problems
Problem	Solution
A document with equal or larger version already exists in the structure	Smart Paste found documents in the destination folder structure that have the same values for Document number and Document revision as the source document. The version number of the source document must be higher than destination document for the transfer to succeed.
Cannot create document into folder	You do not have permission to create documents in the destination folder.
Cannot find folders with folder code	Folders with the Work Package Number value specified in the documents could not be found in the destination structure.
Document is locked by	The source document is locked by another user. It will not be included in the transfer.
Document number and/or version information missing	The document is missing values for one or more of the properties described in Understanding the Smart Paste properties.
Multiple folders match folder code	Multiple folders with the same value for User code were found in the destination structure. The values should be unique for all folders in the WBS.
Other source document(s) have the same document number	There are multiple versions of the same document on the Clipboard. Smart Paste can only transfer one version of a document at a time.
destination folder code not defined in document	The Work Package Number property is not set in the source document.
The previous version of the document is locked by	Smart Paste found a prior version of the document in the destination structure, but the document is being modified (locked).
The destination document already has a successor version	Smart Paste found a destination document that has the same Work Package Number value as the source document but the document has a newer version that does not have the same value of Document number.
Could not determine document field for WBS code	Smart Paste could not find the Work Package Number property definition. Contact the workspace administrator.
Failed to load source/destination documents. Cancel operation	Some documents in the current Smart Paste operation have been deleted. Retry the operation.
Some locks have expired or have been removed from source/destination documents. Canceled operation.	Documents in the current Smart Paste operation must be locked during transfer to guarantee data integrity. The locks are active for 15 minutes from the initiation of the Smart Paste operation from the Clipboard. Retry the operation if you receive this error message. If the default timeout is not sufficient, consult a system administrator to increase the timeout.
No documents or any folders with documents on clipboard for the Smart Paste	The folders placed on the Clipboard do not contain any documents or the Clipboard is empty. The parent folders of the documents to be transferred must be on the Clipboard. Documents in subfolders will not be transferred.
The value of Document number seems to be the same as prior versions in the destination structure but Smart Paste offers to create a new document instead of a new version	When creating new versions of documents, Smart Paste verifies: The source Document number value matches the destination value. Invalid characters or white space within the values will cause the transfer to fail. Both the new and prior versions of a document must reside in the same folder in the WBS. If the versions are in different folders, a new document will be created rather than a new version.
